eSIM-compatible devices
Our complete list of smartphones with eSIM support.
Newer smartphones generally take an eSIM. That includes the iPhone XS onward, the Galaxy S20 range onward and Pixel 3 onward. The handset must also be unlocked, with no carrier restriction. Your settings, under "Mobile Data", show within seconds whether it works.
eSIM is not available on every handset. Below is our list of supported models, grouped by maker. Make sure yours is on it before purchasing.
Test whether your phone can take an eSIM
iPhone: Open Settings, tap Mobile Data, then Add eSIM. If that option is there, your iPhone handles eSIM.
Samsung: Look for Add eSIM inside SIM manager, which sits under Connections in Settings. If it is listed, your Samsung is compatible.
Google Pixel: Look for Add eSIM in SIMs, found under Network & internet in Settings. If it is listed, your Pixel handles eSIM.
General: Type *#06# into the dialler. An EID number on screen means the phone supports eSIM.

Conditions for using an eSIM
- A phone with eSIM support, as listed above
- A handset that is unlocked rather than tied to one carrier
- A Wi-Fi connection at the time the eSIM profile goes on
- No need to end your current mobile contract, since the eSIM runs on its own separate data plan
Frequently asked questions
Most phones released since 2018 do. Look in your settings: Mobile Data, then Add eSIM. Alternatively dial *#06# and see whether an EID number is displayed, which means your phone is compatible.
A carrier lock restricts your phone to one network operator. Ask that operator to lift it. In France, unlocking costs nothing once you have used the phone for 3 months.
Yes, provided it is a cellular iPad. The Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Pro 2018, iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 5, and the models released after them, support eSIM.
Certain watches, such as the Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular), can use an eSIM, but only with the watch's own mobile plan. You cannot put a travel eSIM on a smartwatch.
